May is a busy month! We will continue to explore nature and nurturing our garden in the play yard. We will “dive” right in to a sea life unit and learn about our local beach habitats. We continue to work on our writing upper and lower case letters and practice phonics. We will also have fun with rhyming words with games, songs, and books. The children love to make up their own “Down By The Bay” rhymes!
This month, we will also focus on social-emotional skills as we prepare the children for Kindergarten. In addition, there are many social and emotional skills that are important for your child to start their Kindergarten year with. In order for your child to be able to learn, they have to be comfortable navigating a new environment with new teachers and friends. Having these skills will help them be successful in the classroom: cooperating with peers, asking for help, respecting adults and peers, empathizing with others, and persevering when faced with a challenge.
Spring assessments will go home this month. Please let Mrs. Kelly know if you would like to set up a conference to discuss your child’s assessment or kindergarten readiness.
